FC Barcelona was back with a bang against Juventus in the first match day of Champions League at Camp Nou, Barcelona. The group match between them resulted in a win for the Catalonia side by 3-0, with Lionel Messi scoring twice and Ivan Rakitic getting a goal from a misplaced clearance by Barzagli.
This was a highly intense match as Juventus had defeated Barcelona in last year’s edition of the Champions League. The Juventus side missed some of their regulars through injury or suspension and the team lacked determination which it is famous for.
The first half of the match was fairly balanced with Luis Suarez misplacing passes left, right and centre. This was also Dembele’s first start for the Blaugranas after a world record transfer. Barcelona’s Marc Ter Stegen kept off shots in the first half leaving Barcelona with some respite, before Messi scored in the 45th minute.
The second half was all guns blazing for Barcelona who were keen on seeking redemption and the magical man didn’t disappoint. This is the first time that Messi has managed to get past Gigi Buffon in his career.
The win will come as a huge plus for Barcelona after the appointment of a new manager, and the mess of Neymar leaving riddled with the gross mismanagement of the club.
