The London Derby Community Shield match between Arsenal and Chelsea ended 4-1(penalties) in favour of the North London team as it ended 1-1 after regular time. Chelsea winger Victor Moses hit a goal in the early second half, but Pedro was sent off after a dashing tackle on Elneny to allow Sead Kolasinac, from Arsenal to equalize the scores and take it to the penalties.
The new ABBA penalty shootout system was under play and the game went straight to penalties after the regular time, and without stretching it to the extra time. Lacazette went first from the the Reds of London and slotted it home, followed by Walcott and Monreal before Frenchman Giroud scored the final goal for Arsenal.
Chelsea had a disappointing time at the shootouts as signing-of-the-season Alvaro Morata missed the spot kick which was further aided by goalkeeper Courtois’ miss which led Chelsea to lose after a thrilling 90 minutes at the Wembley.
Arsene Wenger will look to strike back from the upsetting season at the English Premier League and will be hoping to secure a Champions League spot next season.
